A reception for Judy Haner, the new manager of the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve, is from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Haner recently started at the reserve and oversees its research, monitoring and education programs. She was a resource management coordinator at the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve near Naples, Fla. She received bachelor of science in biology and a master's of science in marine science from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the borough office at 206 E. Pioneer Ave.

The Anchor Point Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10221 sponsors a Halloween party starting at 9 p.m. Oct. 29 at the post. The party includes karaoke with Miss Penny and a costume contest. A fish fry is at 4 p.m. Oct. 31. Call 235-4101.

The Pratt Museum holds a Halloween scavenger hunt from 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at the museum. Call 235-8635.

Hospice of Homer holds a Ladies Gathering at 3 p.m. Nov. 1 at the Bear Claw Bakery for women to explore issues of personal loss and grief. Call 235-6899.

South Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board meets at 6 p.m. Nov. 1 in the hospital conference room.

The Anchor Point Craft Fair is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Nov. 6 at Chapman School in Anchor Point. Booth space is available. Call Anchor Point Senior Citizens at 235-7786.
