A reception for Judy Haner, the new manager of the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve, is from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center. Haner recently started at the reserve and oversees its research, monitoring and education programs. She was a resource management coordinator at the Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve near Naples, Fla. She received bachelor of science in biology and a master's of science in marine science from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.
Kachemak Emergency Service Area Board meets at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the borough office at 206 E. Pioneer Ave.
