In other business at the meeting, the council unanimously elected Beth Wythe to be mayor pro tempore. Wythe replaces Council member emeritus Dennis Novak, who retired from the council after serving two terms. He was elected in 2003. Wythe presented Novak with a plaque honoring his service. Johnson delivered a message from Mayor James Hornaday announcing he has finished his cancer treatment. Hornaday returns this week and takes up the gavel again Monday at the regular city council meeting.
