My kindergartner was attending Paul Banks as a new student to the school district. She was sent away from the lunch line more than once. Being told to go talk to the office, she wandered into her classroom until lunch time was over. I questioned the office personnel in person and thought things were cleared up. When I called on the third time, I was told by the principal that he "saw her eat with his own eyes" unaware to him, it was another parent who fed her from his tray.
I was frustrated that the blame had been put on my 5-year-old to know how the system worked and assume she would be taken care of by someone else. All in all, she went three days without school lunch, not on my part but due to the lack of attention from the staff at Paul Banks.
I am sad to say that no one even apologized and were incensed that the shortcomings were mine.
The lunch card was inoperable apparently because the school district has a window of time that passes between the adding a new student to the system and the computers accepting their new numbers.
However I am relieved they have put into place a program to aid those who have either forgotten or used up the funds available on the lunch cards.
