“Painting with Flame”: Community Schools ceramic instructor Ryjil Christianson displays vessels pit-fired on the beach. A technique older than raku, pit firing creates a “flame painted” design. Photos of the process are part of the show. An artist’s reception is 5-7 p.m. Through Nov. 29.

Homer Council on the Arts
“Doornamentation” explores the ancient symbol of the wreath. Works made by community artists go on sale with a silent auction ending Nov. 22, just in time for Thanksgiving. It opens with a reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday. Through November.

“Symmetry,” by Anchorage artist Dot Tideman, features multi-media art. An artist’s reception is 5-7:30 p.m. Through November.

Ptarmigan Arts Back Room Gallery
“A Festive Arts” is a boutique show featuring work by Ptarmigan Arts and other local artists, with art and gifts. From 5-7 p.m. is an artists’ reception, with 5-minute chair massages by Homer Inn and Spa. The show runs Nov. 3 to Jan. 3, 2007, with stock continually changing throughout the holiday season.
Ring of Fire Meadery
“Between Two Worlds/Intimate Observations,” Homer artist Kim Terpening’s digital photographic printmaking show, continues at the Meadery through November (see story, page 1B). The Meadery holds a reception from 5-7 p.m. to introduce two new flavors, Hamlet Honeymoon and Dry Rhubarb.
“License to Ritz” art show is up through today. The museum is closed Friday to set up for the Ritz, but tickets for Ritz 2006 are on sale at the front desk through 5 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door — if it’s not sold out. The Ritz starts at 7 p.m. Saturday.
