Homer gets Anchorage station
Another television station has been added to the list of channels received in the Homer area. KYES, channel 9, threw the switch on it's new Seldovia transmitter a week ago today bringing the UPN-affiliate station to television watchers throughout the southern Kenai Peninsula. It comes after a lengthy conflict with the state broadcast system, said Jeremy Lansman, president of Fireweed Communications Corporation the company that owns the KYES license.

This is the first time since 1995 when the state charged all Anchorage stations for violating antitrust laws, that all Anchorage network stations can be seen in Homer. All transmission was temporarily shut down when the stations failed to pay for a slot in the state-owned four channel system, Lansman said. KYES has been available on channel 5 through GCI cable or the Dish Network satellite programming.
