Coastwalk help appreciated
The Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies recently wrapped up its 18th annual Kachemak Bay Coastwalk. We'd like to thank the more than 200 participants who committed their valuable time to collect information about the condition of the beaches in Kachemak Bay and to remove more than 35 bags of litter and marine debris.

This year's participants came from local businesses and organizations, schools and the community at large. Special thanks to Cub Scout Den 2 for its spirited effort in cleaning up part of the Spit and turning what they found into award-winning marine debris art. We'd also like to thank the Kachemak Bay Research Reserve for including the Coastwalk Wrap-up and beach litter pick-up as part of the celebration of National Estuaries Day.

Our annual Coastwalk Hero awards went to Carmen and Conrad Field and to Carla and Wayne Stanley for their many years of participation, and to Michael Armstrong, the Snomads, Nancy Hillstrand and Randy Hagenstein of the Alaska Nature Conservancy for their special efforts on behalf of our beaches.
