The turkeys are starting to show up in the grocer's freezer. I know I have in the past waited for that last final markdown on turkeys so I could get the best price only to find out all the turkeys in Homer were purchased. That was a good learning experience for me. So forget about that last markdown and get your turkeys early so you have one.
Anchor Point Senior Center
In honor of Veterans Day all veterans eat free at tonight's dinner at the senior center. Dinner will be fried chicken and all the fixings. The salad bar opens at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is served at 6 p.m.
Saturday the center will have another one of its world famous, prime rib dinners. The salad bar opens at 5:30 p.m.; dinner is served at 6 p.m. Tickets are limited and are presold. The cost is $35 per couple or $20 for singles. Call the center at 235-7789 for tickets.
The center's community breakfast will be from 9 a.m.-noon Nov. 22. The center will be closed on Nov. 26 and 27, but there still will be bingo on Nov 27, with the doors opening at 6 p.m. Bingo starts at 7 p.m.
Helping Hands
Helping Hands is open from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays.
VFW Post 10221
The post will host a doubles pool tournament Saturday. Participants draw for partners. You don't have to know how to play a good game of pool to join in. There's a $5 entry fee. Participants sign in at 6:30 p.m. and pool begins at 7 p.m.
Thanksgiving Dinner will be at 3 p.m. (not 2 p.m. as previously announced) on Nov. 26.
Monday Night is taco night from 5-7 p.m. Friday Night is burger and brew from 5-8 p.m. Steak Night will be from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 21. Karaoke will follow at 9 p.m. Members and guests are welcome.
