Homer's Mitch Wyatt takes advantage of a misstep by Justin Klapak of Ninilchik to turn his opponent and make the pin in the final period.
Eli Garvey (105 pounds) and DJ Marsengill (119 pounds) scored pins against their opponents.
"The crowd was rocking as Garvey turned his opponent, Alvin Velasco, on his back," Perk said.
The pin, in just over a minute, was Garvey's 10th of the season against eight loses.
"Marsengill was executing sharp technique all weekend. He pinned John Tabilas in the second period," Perk said.
Four wrestlers from Voznesenka also competed in the meet. Nick Matveev (125 pounds), Zenon Martoshoff (160), Julien Polushkin (285) and Leo Polushkin (285) all scored victories over Cordova and Homer opponents.
In Saturday's Rumble, the Cordova varsity's 136 points just topped the Nikiski Bulldogs with 132. The Mariners placed fifth overall with 68 behind third-place finisher Kenai (74 points) and fourth-place Soldotna (70 points). Other teams competing:
6. Nikiski JV, 65 points
7. Ninilchik, 42 points
8. Voznesenka, 38 points
9. Kenai JV, 25 points
10. Cordova JV, 19 points
11. Homer JV, 10 points
12. Soldotna JV, 2 points
13. Seldovia, 0 points
14. Voznesenka JV, 0 points
15. Ninilchik JV, 0 points
Garvey won the silver medal, narrowly missing gold, Perk said.
"He was leading Hope Steffensen from Kenai, who is currently ranked third in the state for 4A schools," the coach noted. "Garvey was aggressive the entire match and scored on an escape in the second period."
At that point, his hands came together in a hold, a technical violation, tying the match at one apiece.
"With only five seconds remaining, Steffesen was able to stand up and score an escape and win the gold," he said. "But that was a big improvement over the last time they wrestled when Steffensen pinned Eli."
Marsengill placed third in the 119-pound division and earned "Wrestler of the Week" honors.
Homer's Travis Catron (145 pounds) placed third with three pins. Mitch Wyatt, down to 152 pounds, took home the silver after winning three matches before running into No. 3-ranked Blake Platt of Cordova.
"Wyatt still leads the team with 22 wins so far this season," Perk said.
Chris Alfiche won his second match of the season and placed seventh at 160 pounds.
Larry Croft, also at a new weight at 189 pounds, won three matches before losing to McKyer Trumblee of Cordova. Croft now has a 14-6 record this season.
Freshman Drew Raymond barely missed a bronze, Perk noted.
"He worked hard to earn a win over D'Angelo Cloud of Kenai," he said.
Finally, junior David Jolly, who normally wrestles at 215 pounds, bumped up to the 285 bracket for the Friday dual meet when teammate Ben Harville came down with the flu. Over the course of the weekend, Jolly scored four takedowns and placed fourth Saturday in the 215-pound weight class.
This weekend, the Mariners travel to Skyview, and will battle the Voz Cougars on Tuesday at McNeil Canyon School at 7 p.m.
With four key mat men out for a variety of reasons, the Mariners gave up three forfeits and 18 points in losing to the Wolverines 56-24. Still, the Ms managed to hold their own against the Cordova, said Head Coach Chris Perk.
