Anchor Point Public Library has received a grant in the amount of $391 from Alaska Sisters in Crime, a mystery writers group. It was used to purchase 13 audio books by women mystery writers. The Library Board is extremely busy planning for the upcoming Cabin Fever Variety Show Jan. 31 (I told you the wrong date last week so please check you calendars). They have some exciting raffle prizes that will be drawn at the show. Two dollars will buy a ticket for a framed print by Leslie Klaar. Five dollars can purchase a ticket for a bear-viewing trip from Bald Mountain Air. There also will be a silent auction during the show. "Mud Bay Madrigals" will be performing along with many of our talented local folks. If you would like to try out for the show, call Mary Perry at 235-7910.
Chapman School is hosting the Junior High Small School Tournament Dec. 4, 5 and 6. Don't forget their Winter Concert Dec.16th at 7 p.m.
Anchor Point Senior Citizens Crafty Ladies are busily making items for their booth at the Nutcracker Faire. They are especially proud of their newest items: fleece hats, scarves, and capes <> guaranteed to keep you warm this winter. The Senior Citizens wanted to let everyone know that they will be holding their regular bingo night this Friday.
Anchor Point Advisory Planning Commission will be meeting Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Anchor River Inn. On the agenda is an update of the revisions of the Transportation Plan, a Norman Lowell Subdivision revised preliminary plat, and vacation of a cul-de-sac in Trident Subdivision.
The Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce has received a supply of snow machining fact books from a national snow machine association. They will distribute the books to local businesses. They also have decals, safety posters and videos that they will share with the school. If you are interested in obtaining this information, call the Chamber at 235-2600. There will be no luncheon meeting this week because of Thanksgiving. The meetings will resume next week with Chris Laing from the Kenai Peninsula Housing Initiative. Dan Brockhorst of the Boundaries Commission will speak Dec. 10. Bill Popp, the Kenai Peninsula Oil and Gas Liaison, will speak Dec. 17. Have you bought your raffle ticket for a Ski Doo Mini Z, and other great prizes, yet? The drawing will be on December 23rd.
Xi Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi has set the date for the lighting of the community Christmas tree. It will be Dec. 13 from 2 to 4 p.m. Plans for the event, which are still being finalized, include caroling, refreshments, and a visit from Santa. We will keep you posted.
Anchor Point's new postmaster will join the team Dec. 4 at a swearing in ceremony at 2 p.m. in the post office's lobby. Postmaster Eleanor Sarren comes to Anchor Point from Unalakleet, where she is the postmaster. She has lived in Unalakleet since 1979. Sarren began working at the post office in 1990 and became postmaster a year later. She has been the editor of the Alaska Postmaster newsletter for nine years. Sarren also has been active in the Unalakleet educational system. She has a degree in broad area education and photography as well as business certification. Sarren said her hobbies include camping, fishing, beading, quilting and photography. She is married to John Sarren. The couple has two sons. Both are in college.
