Pet of the Week
photo: towncrier

Chewy
Why are they called guinea pigs? There is a theory that*"guinea" refers to the gold coin which was the price*for one of these friendly little rodents that squeak like a pig.*Natives of South America, guinea pigs were a food source before being domesticated.*Chewy is a young black-and-white guinea pig who would much rather be someone's pet than someone's meal.

Also at the shelter is a very playful, outgoing, spirited bunny who loves to show off her hopping skills and even uses a litter box to do her business.*She gets along with people and other animals, including the four cuddly little hamsters also temporarily living at the shelter. The humans who adopt this furry menagerie*will have a lot to be thankful for this year!

If you'd like to adopt a pet, call or stop by the Animal Shelter on the Bypass across from the post office. The shelter is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 235-3141, e-mail pow@homeranimals.com, or visit the shelter's Web site at www.homeranimals.com.
