A Kachemak Bay Campus student was severely injured in a Thanksgiving morning accident.
Alaska State Troopers said Patrick Olarey, 20, of Anchor Point, was driving west in a blue 2000 Ford Ranger on the Sterling Highway near Mile 45 when his truck veered across the opposite lane, went into the ditch and hit a tree.
Moose Pass Volunteer Fire Department and Cooper Landing Emergency Medical Services crews had to demolish the truck to extricate Olarey and his passenger, Rosing Boungnavath, 24, of Anchorage.
Olarey and Boungnavath received serious injuries and were flown by Life Flight helicopter to Providence Hospital in Anchorage. Troopers did not know if they wore seat belts. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
