Accidental shooting injures one

A 30-year-old Homer woman was medevaced to Anchorage with a gunshot wound to her lower leg after an apparent accidental shooting late Monday night by her boyfriend, also 30 of Homer. According to Homer Police Chief Mark Robl, the man said he was cleaning his handgun at a home on Ocean Drive when the gun went off, firing a bullet that hit the woman in her leg. A friend of the man called 911 about 11 p.m. and Homer Volunteer Fire Department medics took the woman to South Peninsula Hospital. Two other witnesses supported the man's account. A police investigation of the scene also supported the account of an accidental shooting, Robl said.

Police will forward their investigation report to the Kenai District Attorney's office to determine if any negligence was involved — standard procedure for a shooting, Robl said. No alcohol was involved.
