Engagement: Anna Jay and Ashish Mahajan

Patricia and Charles Jay of Homer are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Anna Ruth, to Ashish Mahajan of Delhi, India. The couple will wed Feb. 23, 2010, in Delhi with a reception at the Delhi Flying Club followed by a celebration for family and friends in Homer next summer.

Anna was born and raised in Homer, graduated from The Bishop's School in La Jolla, Calif., in June of 2004, and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Chicago in June of 2007, with a degree in South Asian languages and civilizations. She received a graduate fellowship to study in Jaipur, India, in 2007, where she completed studies in Hindi at the American Institute of Indian Studies. She was a Hindi editor at Sarai, the Center for the Study of Developing Societies in Delhi, where she met Ashish, head of operations. Anna is currently on assignment in Jammu and Kashmir as an interpreter in Hindi and Urdu for the International Red Cross.

Ashish, the son of Leela and Krishan Mahajan of Delhi, was born and raised in Delhi, India. He is a graduate of Delhi University with majors in political science and history, and also has completed studies in programming and graphics. He is currently involved in filmmaking and the nonprofit sector.
