Basketball tournament begins

Happenings in Anchor Point

Joanne Collins
Chapman School begins hosting the Small Schools Basketball Tournament today. Games begin at 3 p.m. today and Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday. The first game for Chapman girls will be today at 6 p.m. against Seldovia, with the boys playing their first game against today.

Thanksgiving dinner for Helping Hands at Anchor River Inn raised $658 for this very worthy community organization. A big thanks to the Clutts family, all their employees who donated their time to serve, cook and clean up, and to the many people who turned out and made donations.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce has chosen the date of Dec. 23 to judge its Christmas Lighting Contest. It will be the same night as its raffle drawing. Entry forms for both the lighting contest and nomination forms for the community awards are available at many locations around the community. Dan Brockhorst, from the Local Boundaries Commission, will be the chamber's guest speaker at their luncheon on Dec. 10. Bill Popp, Kenai Peninsula oil and gas liaison, had to postpone his speaking engagement until Jan. 7, due to a scheduling conflict.

Xi Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi has rescheduled the date of the community Christmas tree lighting for Dec. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. There were just too many events taking place in Homer and Anchor Point on Dec. 13 to add one more.

Congratulations go to Jody Herd who traveled to Anchorage with the Homer Special Olympics Bowling Team. Jody came home with two gold medals and one silver medal in addition to the Homer team bringing home the first place trophy. Way to go Jody and the entire team!
