Troopers said that at about 10:35 a.m. Dec. 6, Janie Martin, 31, was driving south in a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am near Mile 164 Sterling Highway, about a mile north of the Old Sterling Highway intersection, when she lost control on wet roads. The car went into the opposite lane, hitting a 1993 Ford pickup truck driven by Cullross, 52, of Homer. The collision caused the pickup to go down a steep, 40-foot embankment.
Several other drivers assisted the victims. Emergency medical technicians and firefighters from the Anchor Point and Homer fire departments responded, and had to cut open both vehicles to extricate the victims, said Trooper David Sherbahn.
The Sterling Highway was closed for about 40 minutes while EMTs and rescuers extricated and treated the victims. Sherbahn did not know if the victims wore seatbelts.
Troopers cited Janie Martin for driving too fast for road conditions.
