Taken from a portion of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' novel "Love in the Time of Cholera," this deceptively simple film focuses on Pedro, a shy young man enamored of the town beauty. Too shy to approach her directly, he hires the town scribe as his emissary. The film is free, but donations are accepted.

The annual Share the Spirit fund-raiser. Volunteers are needed to prepare spaghetti from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday and to cook, serve and deliver meals on Tuesday. Call 235-7466.

Red Hat Society Homer Luncheon

The Red Hat Society of Homer holds a luncheon with a gift exchange. Lunch is $7.95. Krista of Mary Kay will do makeovers and a photographer will be on hand to take glamour photographs. Seating is limited to 30. To join the Homer Red Hat Society or make reservations, call 235-7300.

Audubon Christmas Bird Count

8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Dec. 18, Islands and Ocean Visitor Center.

The purpose of the count is to identify and count all birds on Saturday. A separate record of all birds seen three days before and three days after will be logged. Volunteers will be organized into teams to cover specific areas within the Homer count circle, a 15-mile diameter circle with its center in Mud Bay. A $5 donation will be accepted to help with publishing the results. Call 235-7260 or 235-3487 for more information.
