The Nutcracker Ballet is in its 16th year of production and no matter how many times one sees this musical presented through the art of dance, one feels like it is the first time. It is the official start of the holiday season for all of us here on the peninsula.
This Saturday the community Christmas tree will be lit at 2 p.m. This annual Anchor Point function is sponsored by Xi Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International. The Christmas lighting ceremony includes gathering at Chapman School, the lighting of the tree, then back to the school for cookies, hot drinks, a visit with Santa Claus and a round of Christmas carols.
The ladies of Xi Upsilon wish to thank Conoco-Phillips for its generous contribution for the third year to defray the cost of this project.
They would also like to thank Al Pyhala for all the years he has checked the wiring, lights and put new lights up in mostly unfriendly weather. The community tree will stay lit until after Russian Christmas in January. The Beta ladies invite everyone young and old to come out for the lighting of the community tree.
Just a reminder that the nomination forms for the Community Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce are due by Monday. The forms are available at the chamber office or several local businesses. Don't worry about mailing them, just drop them in the slotted drop box at the chamber office.
The Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce meets every Wednesday at noon at the Anchor River Inn for its general membership luncheon meeting. Chamber President Paul Voeller invites everyone to attend and learn about local, borough and state issues that affect the Anchor Point community.
During the month of December and all the holiday celebrations take a few minutes to call or send a card to those that are ill or homebound in the Anchor Point community. This is the season of giving and the gift of giving joy to someone is the best gift of all.
Have a safe and happy week Anchor Point.
