If competing with schools showing close to 10 times the enrollment of the 32 students at Voznesenka High School were not a challenge enough, five Cougar wrestlers managed to put themselves in the State competition in Bartlett to face even tougher opponents.

Voznesenka wrestlers took to the road to the Denali/Kachemak Conference Tournament last weekend.

Joe Martishev placed fourth at 135 pounds; Zenovei Martushoff took fourth at 145 pounds; Zenon Martushev placed second at 160 pounds; Julian Polushkin placed second at 215 pounds; and Leo Polushkin was the tournament champion at 285 pounds.

Out of 15 teams at the tournament Voznesenka placed fifth with a team score of 109 points.
