State to provide flooding unemployment insurance
The Alaska Dept. of Labor and Workforce Development announced this week that Alaska residents living or working in the Kenai Peninsula Borough might be eligible for Disaster Unemployment Assistance.

Those affected by the flooding have until Jan. 8 to apply for the benefits, said Bill Kramer, assistant director for unemployment insurance with the department's employment security division. That includes self-employed workers and others not covered by the state's unemployment insurance program, whose source of income has been negatively affected by the flood.

Flood-affected workers may receive weekly payments of up to $248 plus dependents allowance for up to 26 weeks.

For more information, or to apply, call (800)590-5941, or visit www.labor.state.ak.us and click on the Disaster Unemployment Assistance link.
