Holiday preparations in full swing in Anchor Point

By Mary McAnelly

Everyone in Anchor Point is preparing for the Christmas holidays. There are Christmas parties happening, school children making gifts, baking in many kitchens, and the Community Christmas Tree is now lit for all to enjoy.

This past Saturday, the ladies of Xi Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, held their annual Christmas tree lighting.

Everyone assembled at Chapman School and then walked over to the tree, where the switch was thrown and Christmas carols were led by Alaska entertainer Lulu Small. Santa Claus was there for the children to talk with and sang along with everyone.

All the guests enjoyed hot drinks and homemade cookies while everyone sang their favorite Christmas carol and Small played her guitar.

For over 20 years the Xi Upsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi have been lighting the tree, the tree is on the property of Earl Johnson, one of Anchor Point's original homesteaders. The lights and electric lines are checked yearly by Al Pyhala who through all kinds of weather, can be seen in early December changing light bulbs.

The past three years Conoco-Phillips have helped the Sorority ladies defray the cost of the electric bill by generous donations for this community event. To all these wonderful, selfless people the members of Xi Upsilon express their heartfelt thanks and wish all of them a merry, merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce will not hold another noon luncheon meeting until Jan. 5.

The recently elected board members to the chamber are: Jessie Johns, Duane Harvey, Joey Allred, Mel Kohlfoeter and Renee Orions. Jan Gladdish was a presidential appointee. The officers for the 2004-2005 term are president, Paul Voeller; vice president, R.J. Austen; treasurer, Cat Schmitt; rec. secretary, Jan Gladdish; and corresponding secretary, Jessica Johns.

Congratulations to all the newly elected board members and officers.

Next Thursday, the music students of Chapman School's sixth, seventh, and eighth grades will perform in a Special Christmas Concert. The Musical presentation will be in the gym at Chapman School and starting time is 7 p.m..

Due to time constraints and publishing deadlines any news for the following week must come to my attention by Saturday. I will be composing my article on Sunday evening, thank you for your input through the years. You may reach me at Kenailass@hotmail.com or call me at 235-4992.

The Holiday Season may be a Happy time for many but there are those who are separated by distance or age from family members.

If you know of someone in the Anchor Point Community or any where take a moment to go by for a short visit, make a phone call or send them a Christmas card with a short message.

It is the season of giving, give someone a smile and share the warmth it will bring you.

Have a safe and good week Anchor Point.
