Council registers Alaskans

The Alaska State Council on the Arts is putting together a roster of Alaskan artists for use by presenters, schools and other organizations to identify and select artists for participation in their programs. The roster will include artists from the following disciplines: theater, dance, opera, youth theater, literature readings, folk and traditional arts, media arts and music. Interested artists can download a copy of the roster application at www.eed.state.ak.us/ aksca. For more information, contact Mike Hayes at downdog@xyz.net.

Fringe expands

Owner of the Fringe, Homer's consignment shop, Kari Multz-Howell, has opened an additional gallery and shop called the Holiday A'faire at 185 Pioneer Avenue next to Alice's Champagne Palace. The shop will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. through December. It will feature local arts, gifts and events. The Fringe is still open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call Multz-Howell at 235-4999.

Carmina Burana comes

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra, the Homer High School Chorus and an ad hoc Kenai Peninsula Community Chorus will perform Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" in April 2004. People interested in singing in the chorus can now register, pick up a score and practice CD at Etude Music Studio on Pioneer Avenue. If interested in playing with the orchestra, or for more information, call 299-2453.

Tom Russell to play

Tom Russell will perform Jan. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at Alice's Champagne Palace to promote his new album, "Borderland."

Tom Russell will be joined on stage by guitarist, Andrew Hardin. This show is a non-smoking event and is a co-sponsored by Downward Dog Productions and KBBI AM 890. Tickets are available online at http://www.ticketweb.com. For more information, call Downward Dog at 235-1921.

HCOA extends hours

The Homer Council on the Arts will be open on Saturdays, from noon to 4 p.m. from now through Christmas for the Homer Fiber Arts Collective Gallery show. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m to 6 p.m. For more information please call HCOA at 235-4288.

Pratt plans programs

The Pratt Musuem's Winter Hours Imagination Zone program for children has returned.

The programming is as follows: preschool-age from 2 to 3 p.m. and first through fifth grade from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday in the lower level of the museum, except Wednesdays which will be at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies. Patron level members will not be charged for the classes.

All others will pay $3 per session per child or there is a $20 punch card for eight sessions. For more information, call the museum at 235-8635.

Pottery classes to begin

Edith Parsons will hold pottery classes beginning January 2004 at her studio at 3939 Lake Street. There is a $50 fee to hold a space. For more information and to make a reservation call Edith at 235-0660.

HCOA seeks donations

An account has been set up at Wells Fargo to help pay the $60,000 estimated Homer Council on the Arts will need to make repairs after August's vandalism. Money can be donated at HCOA or Wells Fargo by referencing the Oil Spill Recovery Account.
