The top 15 old juniors (OJ) and J1 skiers (ages 16-19) in the state earn a place on the Junior National team with the next four earning spots on the Arctic Winter Games team.
The top six J2 skiers (ages 14,15) also earn a spot on the Junior National team with the next four going to the Arctic Winter Games.
The first race Saturday was a 1K sprint and the second was a 10K classic race Sunday at Bartlett High School.
In the OJ and J1 races, Homer’s Morgan Jones placed 13th in the 1K and 18th in the 10K. Erika Klaar placed 15th and 29th and Gus Beck placed 41st and 44th. In the J2 competition, Claire Laukitis finished eighth and 17th and Emma Teal Laukitis finished 10th and 19th.
Besh Cup races 3 and 4 will be held in Homer on Jan. 21-22.
Other Homer skiers competing included Jens Klaar who fininshed second and rth in the Master 4 division (age 56-65); Ken Jones, who finished first in the 10 K classic in the 46-65 year old division; and India Bloom who placed fifth in the sprint while competing in the 8- and 9-year-old age class.
The top four races out of six count toward racers overall standings and team selection.
