But in the spirit of Christmas I truly must put into words some of the wonders Anchor Point and Homer have shown us.
Having lost everything but the contents of a 4-by-8-by-4-foot trailer to get here, we ended up homeless on the Homer Spit for three weeks in June and July.
Cecile and Carmen came to our rescue and realized we were not just tourists but in a bad way - two adults, three 19-year-olds, a baby and a dog.
Share the Spirit was the next wonder bestowed on us and although my finances still do not allow me to donate in that way, my prayers are with them and my heartfelt thanks as well.
Duane and Sue of Trails End Realty who did trust and believe that "the checks are in the mail" (when disability checks did get lost in transit) and still let us into the house. And, of course, thanks to Inge of the Housing Authority.
Thank you to the wonderful people at Helping Hands in Anchor Point and the Baptist Church family and Leann who brought us a wonderful turkey at Thanksgiving, all here in Anchor Point.
There are so many thankful things this Christmas, another year with my family, the beauty here, the people who wave and smile and see you when you wave or nod to them. And people like June.
While waiting in the cold for the Salvation Army to open so we could buy some warmer clothes, she pulled in and said, "Let's go get a cup of coffee." I hate to think I looked like I might have needed it, but thank you, June. The cup of coffee and the conversation were absolutely wonderful.
Well, my whole reason for writing is to say thank you and remind everyone just how much a smile and a kind word can bring to others.
Thank you all again and merry Christmas.
Sandy Thomas and her family moved to the Homer area last summer from the East Coast.
