Concert offers sound of hope

Grandma’s Hope Notes will perform at the Friendship Center at 1 p.m. Friday.

Gallery temporarily closed

Homer Council on the Arts is taking a few days off. The office closed Dec. 25 and will reopen Jan. 3.

Movie boosts students’ fund drive

Homer Theatre has set aside the 6 p.m. Dec. 30 showing of “The chronicles of Narnia” as a fund-raiser for West Homer Elementary School’s fifth grade. Proceeds will be used to support the students’ spring field trip to Peterson Bay.

Needed: mouse pads

Artist Gail Baker needs 100 mouse pads for an artist-in-the-schools program she is doing in January. Mouse pads can be dropped off at Gail Baker Artmaker studio beneath Bunnell Street Gallery.

Out with the old

Fireweed Gallery is organizing an “Art Swap and Sale” on Jan. 1-14. “Take it off your wall and out of storage for exchange or sale,” said Irene Randolph, gallery owner. Anything art-related will be accepted. Trading days are Jan. 6, 7 and 14. Silent offers and sales can take place anytime. For details, visit the Web at www.fireweedgallery.com or call 235-3411. The gallery will be closed Jan. 15-Feb. 16.

New artists sought

Homer Council on the Arts is accepting submissions for its February 2006 Emerging Artist gallery show. All genres are acceptable. This is a juried show and intended for artists who have never held a solo exhibit. Submissions and artist statements are due no later than Jan. 17. The show will open Feb. 3, with a gallery reception, and will continue through the month. For more information, call 235-4288.

Jazzing up 2006

Jazzline Dancers will perform at the Mariner Theatre at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 and 3 and 7 p.m. Jan. 14. Tickets are available at the Homer Bookstore, Etude Studio and Homer Council on the Arts. Admission is $15 general, $10 HCOA members and $8 student.

Award nominations accepted

Homer Council on the Arts is will hold its annual meeting and arts awards at the gallery at 6 p.m. Jan. 20. Nomination forms for the art awards are available at the gallery.

Submissions accepted

The Pratt Museum Exhibits and Programs committee invites artists, humanists and scientists to submit carefully created, dynamic exhibit and/or program proposals for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Deadline for 2007 proposals is Jan. 24, 2006. Deadline for 2008 proposals is Feb. 24, 2006. For more information, contact Gale Parsons at gparsons@prattmuseum.org or 235-8635, ext. 36.

Winter recitals continue

The Shallock Family Piano Trio will perform at the Robinson/Lander residence at 3 p.m. Jan. 15. Tickets are available at Etude Music Studio. Cost is $25.
