The end of year has arrived, and 2010 is just around the corner. New Year resolutions may or may not have been made. It seems that I have just turned around and there it is, a new year.

Anchor Point Senior Center

The center is closed today and Friday.

Anchor Point Fire Department

The Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department is sponsoring an Emergency Medical Technician I class beginning Jan. 11. The department is looking for individuals interested in gaining the skills and knowledge to assist their neighbors and friends in a medical emergency. The class will be approximately 150 hours and will be taught over several weeks. Anyone interested in this training opportunity should contact the fire department at 235-6700 or Robin Proctor at 235-2427.

VFW Post 10221

The Anchor Point VFW hosted its monthly pool tournament Dec. 11. It was a night of camaraderie and good sportsmanship with 18 players in attendance. A special recognition goes to one of our senior citizens Richard Herz, who at 80 years young outplaced rival 30-, 40- and 60-year-old players, to take the honor of fourth place in these boldly competitive games. It says a lot about a community when the young and the elderly can come together in this kind of sportsmanship.

In other VFW Post news, the 8 Mile Band starts playing at 8 tonight to rock in the new year. The post will hold its flag retirement ceremony at 9 p.m. If you have a flag that needs to be retired, please drop it off at the post.

Don't forget, taco night is on Mondays from 5 to 7 p.m. Burger and Brew is on Friday nights. Members and guests are welcome.
