Ben Rasmussen,
Former Homer resident Ben Rasmussen, a junior defensive end for the Hayward High School Hurricanes football team in Wisconsin, is one of 500 of the nation's top high school football underclassmen invited to participate in the U.S. Army National Football Combine in San Antonio, Texas, Jan. 7-9. The event is held annually in association with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Rasmussen was born in Homer and lived here until his family moved to Wisconsin in 2007. In Homer, he played hockey and basketball, as well as participated in track. He is the son of Harry and Cindy Rasmussen. His grandmother, Virginia Welle, lives in Homer.
