Brendan J. O'Brien and Anaida K. Haas James and Margaret O'Brien, Seagirt, N.J., and Eugenia Haas, Palmyra, Va., announce the engagement of their son and daughter, Brendan James O'Brien and Anaida Kristina Haas. Anaida Haas is the daughter of the late James Haas. She graduated from Homer High School in Homer and Western Washington University in Bellingham. Brendan O'Brien graduated from Westfield High School in Westfield, N.J., and Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H. Both are U.S. diplomats serving in Kabul, Afghanistan. Anaida Haas is the Cultural Affairs Officer and Brendan O'Brien is the Press Attach at the U.S. Embassy. They plan to return to Washington, D.C., this autumn and are planning a spring wedding.

Jana Grace Porter and Mitchell Alexander Huene Jana Grace Porter and Mitchell Alexander Huene were married on Sunday, June 27 at 4 p.m. at the Porter family's home. The outdoor ceremony was officiated by their friend, Matt Noble. Fifty relatives and friends gathered to witness their covenant vows. The matron of honor was the bride's sister-in-law, Joleigh Porter, and best man was the groom's father, Paul Huene. Although the weather was gray and drizzling, the joyful celebration went forth with umbrellas, XtraTufs and a large tent. Karla Classen provided music on the keyboard. Out of town guests from Canada included the groom's parents, his sister Allison, his grandparents Ray and Catherine Huene, and his Aunt Jan Laring.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Anni Griffin Reed and Steve Riedel. Joshua is the son of Larry and Karen Garvey. Ten years after graduating from Homer High School, the couple were reunited through work at Land's End Resort. Liz holds a bachelor of arts degree in theology and psychology and has traveled in the Middle East and Mexico as a missionary. She works for The Center - South Peninsula Behavioral Health Services. Josh has a bachelor's degree in business management and a master of arts degree in finance and accounting. He works as chief financial officer at Land's End. In the words of Elias Garvey, their story is "a beautiful epic adventure, a romantic comedy -- in short, a love story."
