Ya-But-Like
In the state of Falos,
no longer here, the grass was always green, the sky was always clear blue and
the air was always as clean as fresh water just bubbling up from a spring. The
trees were dark green and tall. And you didn't even have to look far to see
some beautiful mountains. It was a small town always quiet, well not quiet but
pace full all the animals loved it there, all the birds wood sing and the
wolves howled every night
Well you are probably thinking this is a
perfect town if you love wild life but its not, the kids there all had one word
that described all of them, and that one word that described each and every one
of them was stubborn. They never
finessed their sentences, instead they only said "ya but still" "ya but like" "no like..." and so on. The kids were all nice but like
all kids had there mean spots, they had fun but had there conflicts.
So one little girl named Marie-Clair said "ya
but like" so much that in the garden something started to grow. Every time she said "ya but like" it
grew an inch. You can imagine it
grew like mad. It was gray and
lumpy; it had little spikes coming off of it and was hollow.
Then with my own eyes I saw it make a bud and
then it started opening... And there it was! Nothing, just and an over grown
flower.
"Huuu! Huuu Huuu Huuu,"
something was coming up the flower stem, and then you could see it coming up
the tube!
Imagine a snake swallowing a pig but in
reverse, but the stem never cracked!,
it stretched out all the way to let the animal or whatever it was, come up and
then it sank down to its original size.
Then out it popped, it had a long horse tail and
beaver buck teeth, its ears were droopy and bobbed up and down.
It didn't talk, it
wandered around saying "ya but like" I guess that's how it got named. By the time it got to the library the
police new, by the time it got to the school of the town knew about it and by
the time it got to the play ground the whole town knew.
All
the sudden a girl named Marie-Clair said ya-but-like and the "ya-but-like" came
bounding to her.
"Ya-but-like........ya... Ya... ya,
but, but but but, like, like, but, ya!" Marie Clair had a pink face and freckles, her skin was always
cold and her hair carrot orange.
"Hey little guy, you are soooo cute!" the girl
said "why don't you have a collar? Hey, are you that ya-but-like?" she said in
an interested tone
"Bbuutt!"
"Ha ha you are so cute, and funny! Do you think
I can keep you?"
"Like!" the ya-but-like said, it was funny, all
he said was ya, but, or like!
Ha!, just as you thought you were going some
where you have to go back!, do you remember when the plant was growing? Well
now some thing, wait, more than one was growing along side the other one!
They were all different colors! Blue, pink,
brown, black, white, purple, yellow, red, orange, exec) but the weird thing was
there was no repeats of colors and most odd that was, the normal plant color is
green, but in these there was NO green, not even close!
Then they all opened and there were different
animals!
"Ya-but-still"
"Wha-wha-wha"
"No-like-well"
"But-like-maybe"
And so on.
They all jumped out and started racing around, some ran, some
scurried, some crawled, and some slithered, but most hopped. They never stopped
until they reached what they have been looking for, the first person who said
their name. The kids were delighted to find a cute animal acting like their
pets, in fact they started calling them there pets, they watered them and walked
them, and they sang to them, but when the kids tried to feed them they would
not.
Then one day all the animals got restless, they
all ran to the place the flowers were, when they got there, the kids were
astonished, they never knew there were other animals that came from the same
place!
The kids got to know each other but the animals
already knew each other, then they started eating, the plants that they grew
out of. Each eating there own one. Then when they had eaten them down to the
stub, they lay down and took a nap.
"You know all my animal says is Ya-but-like!"
said Marie-Clair.
"Same here, but mine says wha-wha-wha!" said a
boy named Bobby. "Seems like their name is the only thing they know how to say!"
"And they say what's in their name." Said Ray
"I have a good idea!" said Marie Clair
"What?" all the other kids said in unison.
"We can teach them other words, let's go to the
library!"
So the kids headed out, when they got there the
no dog sign was fine, they weren't dogs
and never were going to be.
They ran inside when know one was looking, that
wasn't hard, there was hardly any one in there anyway.
Then they found the dictionary, and started to
read taking turns
"Good, the right thing"
"Words, how we talk"
"Always, never ending"
All the sudden the animals were repeating them, and then they went on
their own.
"Walk" said Ya-but-like
"Good job!" said Bobby.
"Home" said No-but-maybe.
"Their doing well, but its time to go home I
think!" said ray
"Let's meet here tomorrow," Candy suggested
And they left. But every now and again they came
to the library. They started
to use bigger words like "unbearable" and "equilateral"
"Wow, I didn't know that!" the kids kept saying.
And sooner that later the animals, and the kids,
were not using ya but like at all!
"You have learned well!" said Marie-Clair
"We" said Ya-but-like, "by" and then he started
hopping away
"Wait! Where are you going?!" she started to
panic, this is what was happening to all the kids and animals. She leaped out
of her screen door in bear feet.
The animals ran all the way to the flowers, with the kids following
them. They had re grown, and the flowers were empty, then the animals hopped in
to there own and each said a sentence
"We have learned to talk, that was our only wish"
By now Marie-Clair had started to cry. The
Ya-but-like didn't seem to happy ether
"Thank you so much, you all were a very good
help" Wha-wha-wha was balling now
"We have all learned well and so have you" no
like well was for once was serious.
"Please do not use our names any more, you know
how to talk"
"Sadly we will not come back, thank you" all of
them were tearing up of balling
"Good by we will miss you all, you learn well
all you need is a little help" they all said at once
And then they hopped in to there flower. The
flowers closed up and they sank into the ground. That is how those kids learned how to talk, and I hope the
kids today will start it up again.
