Sadie
By Elan Carroll
I remember her
eyes, brown and sweetly watching me. Her fur was black and white and she had
brown eyebrows. When we went to the beach (I was a baby then) I was dozing in
some blankets and Sadie was lying next to me guarding me. When I was four years
old I was going on a trip. My mom said I needed something to eat so she gave me
a piece of toast. I was not hungry
so I fed it to Sadie, who was almost always hungry.
When I was six
years old, it happened. I got home
from school and my family was looking glum. My mom told me that Sadie died. I was so sad.
We carried her bed with her on it and buried her in the garden next to
the rhubarb plant. I knew she was
out of my life, but she was still in my heart forever.
