The annual Ski Your Age event took place again this year atop the Lookout Mountain ski trails on Dec. 26.

“This may have been our largest attended event yet with 80 participants signed up and definitely a few that came out and skied but didn’t enter a category. Hard to believe with our weather this month in Homer, that one would have been able to spend a glorious day with friends and family skiing the day after Christmas but for those that showed up, it was just that!
“KNSC (Kachemak Nordic Ski Club) groomers never disappoint and corduroy was available for those that got an early start on their skiing. Annie Ridgley made the Century Club for the first time while Taro Sasakura had the highest kilometers of the day at 65 km. Annie was one kilometer behind that at 64 km.
“High school ski team members and past ski team members were out in force with two of our current senior skiers (Jacob Davis and Caleb Rauch) skiing 42 kilometers. These distances are a testament to how great the snow was. There were a large number of families out to enjoy the sunny day which was great to see.
“The Schmidt family dominated the family challenge, skiing a combined 146 km with the next closest at 104 km. Thirteen families participated in the challenge which shows how much of a family sport skiing is in our community. The money donated at the event goes directly to the Homer High Ski Team to help support them as they head into their next two months of racing.
“We have some really talented young skiers and this year Angelica Haakenson joined the team and provides us all with so much inspiration. Angelica skis with a sit ski and was successful in skiing 4.5 km at this event.
“Homer High Mariners want to thank all that came out and enjoyed skiing with them as they work to stay in shape over the Christmas break.”
