Beginning in February, South Peninsula Hospital will offer monthly diabetes and cholesterol clinics by Dr. Ross Tanner of the Diabetes and Lipid Clinic of Alaska. Tanner treats adult patients with diabetes, obesity, elevated blood pressure and complex cholesterol problems.

 Tanner is Alaska’s first and only board-certified lipidologist, which is a specialist trained to treat cholesterol problems in order to prevent heart attacks and stroke. He also is one of only two physicians in Southcentral Alaska recognized for their diabetes program by the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a private, not for profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality through rigorous certification and accreditation.

Tanner’s monthly clinic will be offered in the hospital’s specialty clinic annex, located in the Kachemak Professional Building at 4201 Bartlett St., Suite 201. The first clinic is scheduled for Feb. 1. For more information or to make an appointment, contact 235-0310.  

Tanner has more than 20 years experience in managing complicated diabetics and complex cholesterol issues. He completed his undergraduate studies with honors at Texas A&M University and medical school at University of North Texas also with honors. He continued his postgraduate education with completing his internal medicine residency at Texas A&M College of Medicine-Scott and White Hospital with his final year as a chief resident. He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Clinical Lipidology.
