South Peninsula Hospital welcomes new radiologist and gynecologist

South Peninsula Hospital welcomes a new husband-and-wife medical team to the medical staff. Joining the staff and Homer community are radiologist Edson Knapp, M.D., and gynecologist Renda Knapp, M.D. Both received their medical degree at University of South Florida, Tampa, and practiced medicine in Florida and most recently in Tennessee.

Dr. Renda Knapp is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She handles high-risk obstetrics, treats menopause, offers gynecology surgeries, treats women with urinary and bladder problems, and provides general OB/GYN care. She is now seeing new patients at Homer Medical Center.

Dr. Edson Knapp is board certified in radiology and fellowship trained in oncologic imaging and interventional radiology. As one of two staff radiologists, he offers support for other physicians for diagnostic imaging. He also provides minimally invasive image-guided diagnosis and treatments including, but not limited, to steroid injections, biopsies, and specialty procedures like kyphoplasty, which is the surgical filling of an injured or collapsed vertebra. The Knapps and four of their children recently relocated to Homer from Tennessee.
