Oct. 14: Picture day.

Oct. 21: End of the quarter. No school, teacher in-service day.

Oct. 26: Early release. School out at 1:45 p.m.

Oct. 27-28: Student-led parent-teacher conferences.

Big Fireweed (3-6)

Oct. 13: Guest speaker Kiki Abrahamson. Presentation on Kyrgyzstan.

Oct. 14: Guest speaker Matt Steffy, natural resource specialist with Homer Soil and Water Conservation District.

Little Fireweed (K-2)

Oct. 13: District budget development meeting, 6 p.m.

Oct. 14: Harvest potluck and potato sundae party.

Homer Flex

Oct. 13: School district budget development meeting at Homer Flex, 5:30 p.m. Meeting will start with a federal programs presentation on Title I and Title VI, followed by a budget presentation with discussion to follow.

Homer High School

Oct. 13: Dive at Valley Invite, 4 p.m. Leave at 8:30 a.m. and sleep at Palmer High School.

Oct. 13: KPBSD budget meeting in library, 6 p.m.

Oct. 14: Valley swim and dive invite, noon. Swim leaves 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Oct. 14: C-team, JV and varsity volleyball vs. Houston, 3:30, 4:30 and 6 p.m. Senior night.

Oct. 15: Wrestling at Kenai Luke Spruill Invite, 11 a.m. Leave at 6:15 a.m.

Oct. 15: Valley swim and dive invite, noon.

Oct. 15: JV and varsity volleyball vs. Redington, 1 and 2:30 p.m.

Oct. 15: Colors of Homer performance, 7 p.m.

McNeil Canyon Elementary School

Oct. 13: Districtwide budget development presentation, 6 p.m. McNeil Site Council members and interested parents are invited to attend. A special site council meeting will immediately follow the 15 minute video. The purpose of the meeting is to gain feedback on areas of the school budget that can be reduced, areas that should remain priorities and suggestions for legislators about solutions. This input will be presented to the school board at the November and December board meetings. All parents, staff and community members are encouraged to complete a survey about class sizes and school program offerings: hanoverresearch.kpbsd.sgizmo.com/s3.

Oct. 14: McNeil Community Council meeting in the staff lounge, 1 p.m. All parents are invited to attend, and room representatives should attend if possible. Information about booths each class will be having and directions to help get volunteers to work the booths at the fall carnival will be handed out.

Oct. 20: Crazy hair/hat day.

Oct. 20: School shirt order forms due.

Oct. 21: No school for students, staff in-service day.

Oct. 24-28: Book fair. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: 11:20 a.m.-12:20 p.m. Thursday and Friday: 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Proceeds from the book fair will be used to buy art supplies for school-wide projects.

Oct. 26: Early release, 12:50 p.m. Buses will leave at 1 p.m.

Oct. 27-28: Parent-teacher conferences. No school for students. Notices with scheduled conference times will be sent home with students on Friday, Oct. 14. Parents who cannot attend at the scheduled time should contact the school office to reschedule as soon as possible and no later than Oct. 24.

Oct. 28: Fall carnival, 5-8 p.m.

Spotlight students

Yuki Bacher, Paxton Horn, Joesph Morris, Emma Fisher, Leya Johnson, Thomas Martin, Cohen Boyd, Justus Grimes, Tilea Lockwood, Ryder Rhodes, Cassidy Carroll, Alexandra Casey, Braedan Pilant, Kiprian Reutov, Laura Davoudlarian, Riley Huffman, Chase Jones and Faith Latham have been selected as spotlight students for the month of October. Parents are invited to join their child and the principal for lunch on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 11:15 a.m. Please return spotlight student forms as soon as possible so they can be placed on the spotlight student bulletin board.

Fall carnival poster contest

All students are invited to make a poster, no bigger than 12-by-18 inches, to advertise the fall carnival. All entries will receive a prize. Posters must be submitted by Tuesday, Oct. 18. The poster must have the student’s name, grade and teacher’s name on the back, and must have the following information somewhere on the front of the poster: “McNeil Canyon School Fall Carnival, Friday, Oct. 28, 5-8 p.m. at McNeil Canyon School.” Optional additional information: “Come join the fun” and “Food, prizes, games, haunted house, everyone is welcome.”

Book donations needed

Books are needed for the fall carnival cupcake walk. Used books can be dropped off in the office with Laura.

 

School start and end time survey
