Women of Distinction inspire thanks

The 2016 Women of Distinction celebration was an evening to remember honoring four outstanding women as well as the caring, compassionate community that we call Homer.

The spotlight was on: Carmen Field who has inspired, challenged and made the outdoors educational and fun for children and families; Caroline Venuti who has nurtured our children and teachers for years and continues today; Chris Fontaine who offers compassion and care to victims of assault; and Lilli Johnson who has and will continue to make a difference to any and all she comes across. Her energy leaves me speechless and in awe.

Haven House’s staff works year round to make Homer and surrounding areas safer and offers shelter to women and children impacted by domestic violence. Their commitment is making a difference in our community.

To the businesses and artists with their generous and continuing donations of cooking schools, handmade furniture and painted chairs, fishing trips, desserts, concerts, flowers, gas grills, handmade dolls, pottery, gym memberships, gift certificates, bear viewing, jewelry, wine, maple syrup, paintings and of course the participants who came to honor our community and bid on these item — the Haven House board and committee members say thank you.

Homer rocks.
