KPO holds summer concerts this weekend
For its annual summer concert series, the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra holds concerts in Homer, Kenai and Soldotna this weekend and next week.
At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, and Monday, Aug. 5 at Faith Lutheran Church in Homer, the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra presents chamber music concerts featuring the AKamerata Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Oleg Proskurnya from Anchorage. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 Crescendo Club members, and youth 18 and under are free. At 2 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Kenai Senior Center, KPO presents the Anchorage Bowl Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Kyle Lindsey. This concert is free and open to the public.
At 7:30 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Mariner Theatre in Homer, and Aug. 10 at the Renee C. Henderson Auditorium in Kenai, KPO presents its annual Gala Concerts. This summer, KPO performs music by British composers: “Overture to The Wasps,” by Ralph Vaughan Williams; movements from “The Enigma Variations,” by Edward Elgar; and “The Planets”, by Gustav Holst, in its entirety, featuring an extended orchestra and an offstage treble choir. A preconcert conversation is at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 Crescendo Club members, and youth 18 and under are free.
