Best Bets

Warm weather, soft spring rains, trees turning green, thousands of shorebirds arriving and businesses opening on the Homer Spit. Can anyone doubt that spring has really, truly madly arrived? We’ll see the first wave of visitors this weekend with the 22nd annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival — um, not counting the birds. The  birds have been here for weeks.
With dozens of workshops, talks, guided tours and walks, concerts and the daily shorebird viewing stations, from today through Sunday if you can’t find anything to do, you must not have seen the shorebird festival guide. Pick up copies at the Homer Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, or check it out online at www.kachemakshorebird.org. Except for the festival registration fee, many events are free.
This weekend’s Best Bet? There’s only one — all shorebird festival, all days, all the time.
