July 3

A caller at 8:32 a.m. reported three people acting suspiciously on Homer Bypass Road. An officer went to the location but the people were gone when the officer arrived, and the officer didn’t find anything suspicious.

Alaska State Troopers at 9:58 a.m. passed on a Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately (REDDI) report on a vehicle at Mt. Augustine Drive and the Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver and didn’t note any impairment.

A caller at 10:38 a.m. reported that a minor was “pinned on (a) trail” by a moose at Bartlett Street and Spruceview Avenue. An officer went to the location and the minor was rescued.

A caller at 12:33 p.m. reported an ongoing parking issue at Mile 4 Spit Road. An officer went to the location and provided options for fixing the situation.

A caller at 1:17 p.m. reported a vehicle without a handicapped placard was parked in a handicapped spot at Mile 3 Spit Road. An officer went to the scene.

A caller at 3:26 p.m. reported a vehicle theft at Freight Dock Road and Outer Dock Road. Officers responded to the area and the vehicle was located.

An officer at 3:58 p.m. assisted a driver at Spit Road and Freight Dock Road.

A caller at 6:19 p.m. reported a hit and run at Ocean Driver and Ocean Drive Loop. An officer responded to the scene.

July 4

At 9:59 a.m. an anonymous man went to the police station and reported a business was unlocked on East Pioneer Avenue. An officer went to the location.

Officers at 10:57 a.m. arrested a 29-year-old man on three outstanding warrants at East End Road and Kachemak Drive.

A caller at 1:02 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Mile 3 Spit Road. Officers contacted the driver but noted no impairment.

A caller at 2:06 p.m. reported a small child riding an ATV on the beach near Mt. Augustine Drive. An officer was advised.

A caller at 3:38 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at East Hill Road and East End Road. An officer contacted the driver and noted no impairment.

A caller at 5:48 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Lake Street and Ocean Drive. An officer responded to the area.

A caller at 7:22 p.m. requested a check on a home on East Hill Road. An officer went to the scene.

A caller at 8:50 p.m. reported fireworks on Bunnell Avenue. An officer went to the area.

A caller at 11:14 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Main Street and the Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver and did not detect any impairment.

July 5

A caller at 1:41 a.m. reported animals in a vehicle on Spit Road. An officer went to the location.

A caller at 6 a.m. reported a vehicle collision on Ben Walters Lane that had caused damage. An officer went to the scene.

A caller at 7:55 a.m. reported a vehicle collision on Ocean Drive. An officer and medics went to the scene. The driver, a 19-year-old man, was given a summons for driving in violation of his instruction permit, and for not having insurance.

A caller at 11:14 a.m. reported children riding in the bed of a pickup truck at Lake Street and East End Road. Officers contacted the driver.

An officer assisted Alaska State Troopers at 12:25 p.m. at Spit Road and Freight Dock Road.

An officer assisted the Homer Volunteer Fire Department with an unattended campfire at 12:43 p.m. on Bishop’s Beach.

A caller at 1:18 p.m. reported an unrestrained infant in a vehicle at Homer Bypass Road/Mile 91 Sterling Highway. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

A caller at 6:05 p.m. reported a vehicle driving on a closed part of Bishop’s Beach. An officer was unable to locate the driver.

A caller at 5:55 p.m. reported unauthorized camping and people driving with open alcohol containers at Karen Hornaday Park. An officer went to the scene and contacted the people in question.

A caller at 8:32 p.m. reported a domestic violence situation on Bay Avenue. An officer went to the scene and a man fled on foot. The 20-year-old man was later arrested for fourth-degree assault.

July 6

Officers at 2:24 a.m. assisted Alaska State Troopers on McLay Road.

A caller at 3:39 a.m. reported a disturbance on the street at Klondike Avenue and Lucky Shot Street. An officer went to the scene.

A caller at 10:18 a.m. requested a welfare check on an animal on Landings Street. An officer went to the area but was unable to find the animal.

A caller at 1:17 p.m. reported a vehicle collision on Ocean Drive Loop. An officer responded to the scene.

A caller at 1:52 p.m. reported a single vehicle rollover that had caused injuries at West Hill Road and Seascape Drive. Officers and medics went to the scene.

A caller at 3:49 p.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Mile 4.5 Spit Road. An officer went to the location but was unable to find the driver.

An officer at 6:35 p.m. warned a driver for speeding at Mile 1 Kachemak Drive.

A caller at 8:18 p.m. reported a group of people creating a disturbance in a campground on Spit Road. Officers went to the location.

A caller at 11:08 p.m. reported a disturbance in a campground at Mile 1 Spit Road. Officers went to the location.

July 7

A caller at 12:15 a.m. reported fireworks at Mile 3 Homer Spit Road. An officer went to the scene but was unable to locate the fireworks.

A caller at 1:29 a.m. requested officer assistance with a “porcupine entrapment problem” on Bartlett Street. Officers went to the scene and safely extracted the rodent.

A caller at 2:08 a.m. reported a suspicious circumstance on Lakeshore Drive. An officer went to the location and was unable to locate anyone on the property the caller mentioned.

A caller at 5:30 a.m. made a REDDI report on a vehicle at Mile 159 Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the driver and didn’t detect any impairment.

A caller at 5:35 a.m. requested a welfare check on a woman in the Homer area. An officer attempted to make the check and was unable to locate the woman.

The police department received an anonymous letter at noon reported that a trailer was parked in the roadway on Noview Street. An officer was advised.

A caller at 3:58 p.m. was upset over vehicles parked on the street on Karen Hornaday Road due to a previous parking ticket they had received. An officer advised the caller of street parking rules.

A caller at 5 p.m. reported a man possibly passed out in a vehicle that also had children in it at Mile 90 Sterling Highway on the Homer Bypass. The man was woken up by another person and left the area. An officer was unable to locate the vehicle.

A caller at 8:11 p.m. reported an attempted assault with a sledgehammer at Main Street and Bunnell Avenue. The people had been separated at the time of the call. An officer went to the scene.

A caller at 9:22 p.m. reported a woman having a possible mental health issue on Ben Walters Lane. An officer went to the scene.

An officer at 10:15 p.m. assisted another agency with a traffic stop at Spit Road and Kachemak Drive.

A business at 11:12 p.m. reported a parking complaint at Main Street and Ohlson Lane. An officer went to the scene and was unable to locate anyone in the vehicle in question.

A caller at 11:37 p.m. reported people trespassing on private property on Crittenden Drive and concern over a large bonfire. An officer went to the location.

July 8

A caller at 8:56 a.m. reported a vehicle being used to camp illegally at Main Street and Ohlson Lane. An officer went to the scene and spoke with the occupants of the vehicle.

An agency at 9:53 a.m. reported a burglary alarm on Highland Drive. Officers went to the scene and found that all was OK.

A caller at 11:35 a.m. reported a disturbance in a neighboring apartment on Main Street. Officers went to the scene and found the call was unfounded.

A caller at 2:21 p.m. reported a horse running up Baycrest Hill. An officer went to the area and was unable to locate the horse.

Officers at 2:47 p.m. assisted medics on Main Street.

A caller at 7:46 p.m. reported a suspicious vehicle at Mile 1 Kachemak Drive. An officer went to the location but was unable to locate the vehicle.

A caller at 10:11 p.m. reported a suspicious circumstance on West Fairview Avenue. An officer went to the location and spoke with the complainant.

July 9

An officer made a traffic stop at 1:34 a.m. at Homer Bypass Road and Greatland Street, and issued a driver a citation for driving with their license suspended.

A caller at 2:35 a.m. reported a suspicious circumstance on Lakeshore Drive. Officers went to the scene and found the report was unfounded.

Officers assisted the Homer Volunteer Fire Department at 9:45 p.m. with a medical emergency on Homer Spit Road.

A caller at 10:55 p.m. reported a horse in the roadway at Saltwater Drive and the Sterling Highway. Officers went to the scene and roped the animal. The registered owner escorted it home.

July 10

A caller at 8:33 a.m., reported a black bear in her yard and adjoining properties on Sabrina Road. The proper agency was contacted.

A caller at 8:20 a.m. reported activity in a parking lot on Ben Walters Lane 12 hours prior to their call. An officer went to the area and asked the person found there to leave the area.

Alaska State Troopers passed on a REDDI report at 10:45 a.m. about a vehicle at Mile 172 Sterling Highway. An officer contacted the vehicle and gave the driver a citation for driving without license or registration. The officer noted no impairment.

A caller at 8:47 p.m. made a REDDI report about a vehicle at Main Street and the Sterlihg Highway. An officer contacted the driver, and the 61-year-old man was arrested for driving under the influence, refusing a chemical test and evidence tampering.

An officer at 11:58 p.m. assisted the Homer Volunteer Fire Department on McLay Road.

Troopers

July 5

Alaska State Troopers at 8:56 a.m. received a report of a drowning victim on a commercial fishing vessel in the Cook Inlet. An investigation was conducted by the Alaska State Troopers, Homer Police Department, and US Coast Guard when the vessel arrived in Homer. The investigation showed a 59-year-old Anchorage man and a 62-year-old Kenai man were commercial salmon fishing in Cook Inlet when the Kenai man went overboard. The Anchorage man attempted to get the Kernai man back on board but was not successful. While the Anchorage man was trying to get the Kenai man aboard, he became unresponsive and went face down in the water. A nearby vessel came over and the two crews were able to get the Kenai man out of the water and CPR was performed but they were unable to revive him. His remains are being sent to the State Medical Examiner’s office. Next of kin has been notified.

July 9

A 36-year-old Homer man was issued a citation by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Anchor Point Post, for failure to mark 39 personal use fish by clipping the tips of the tails. Bail is set at $85 in the Homer Court.
