Homer Police

Jan. 16

A caller at 7:50 a.m. reported a man broke a window at a Greatland Street business and an employee found him inside. Police responded and arrested a 45-year-old man for burglary and criminal mischief.

A caller at 3 p.m. reported an assault that happened earlier at an FAA Road address.

Jan. 17

Police at 7:25 p.m. arrested on a warrant a 32-year-old man on the Spit.

A woman at 9:48 p.m. made a 911 call from Freight Dock Road on the Spit. Police said the woman sounded drunk but they couldn’t understand her. Police responded.

Jan. 18

A caller at 9:52 a.m. reported credit card fraud.

A woman at 12:09 p.m. reported a theft from a vehicle parked on Ben Walters Lane.

A person at 6:03 p.m. made a 911 call of being assaulted at a Sterling Highway address and said the suspected assailant had left the scene. The caller said no medical help was needed. Police responded.

A person at 6:39 p.m. made a 911 call saying man appeared slumped over the wheel of his vehicle on East End Road. Police and medics were advised. Police responded and found the driver was OK. The vehicle had run out of gas.

Police about 10:35 p.m. tagged vehicles for illegally parking and interfering with snow removal on Uminski Court and Scenic Place. Police also contacted a vehicle owner on Bayview Avenue who agreed to move cars blocking snow removal.

Jan. 19

A caller at 8:43 a.m. reported a moose-vehicle crash on the Sterling Highway near Saltwater Drive. The moose got up and was walking. Police notified the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to monitor the moose.

A caller at 10:37 a.m. asked that a man be issued a trespass notice from a Main Street address.

A caller at 12:43 p.m. reported an attempted theft from a Lake Street business. Police charged a 64-year-old man with fourth-degree theft.

Jan. 20

A caller at 7:31 a.m. reported a person living in a vehicle in a Sterling Highway parking lot. Police responded and issued the person a trespass notice.

A caller at 1:50 p.m. reported people driving too fast for conditions and running stop signs.

A caller at 3:35 p.m. reported a shoplifter at a Sterling Highway business.

A caller at 6:05 p.m. reported water problems at a Klondike Avenue address. Police notified Public Works.

Jan. 21

A caller at 12:51 a.m. made a “report every dangerous driver immediately” complaint. Police stopped the suspect driver on East End Road and arrested a 27-year-old man for driving under the influence.

Police at 11:57 a.m. provided traffic control for a permitted march on Pioneer Avenue.

Police at 2 p.m. provided traffic control for a funeral procession on Lake Street.

Several callers at 2:10 p.m. reported people in trucks driving recklessly and “rolling coal” on pedestrians after the Women’s March on Homer. Police responded and cited a driver for not having proof of insurance.

A caller at 2:20 p.m. reported a family member left home with an unrestrained child in the vehicle.

A caller at 8:08 a.m. reported a burglary at a Pioneer Avenue business.

A caller at 12:47 p.m. reported someone vandalized a public building on Ben Walters Lane.

A caller at 8:41 p.m. reported a child was unattended in a vehicle parked at an FAA Road address.

Jan. 23

A caller at 11:16 a.m. reported a shoplifter in custody at a Sterling Highway business. Police responded and arrested a 27-year-old man for fourth-degree theft.

A caller at 1:32 p.m. reported graffiti at a Ben Walters Lane building.

A person at 5:41 p.m. made a 911 call with a REDDI complaint of an unsafe driver on the Sterling Highway.

A woman at 7:23 p.m. came to the police station to report a drunk pedestrian on Pioneer Avenue. Police responded but could not find the person.

A caller at 9:56 p.m. reported being threatened. Police arrested a 30-year-old man on a probation violation at a Main Street address.

Judgments

Zachary S. Simmons, 24, charge dismissed, using an electronic device while driving. He pleaded guilty to fifth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. He was fined $500 with $250 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $100 suspended jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered to forfeit items seized; and was placed on probation for one year.

Patrick Lee Jones, 55, charge dismissed, third-degree theft. He pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal trespassing. He was fined $100 and ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund.

Janelle M. Gassler, 31, Anchor Point, charge dismissed, driving under the influence. She pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct. She was fined $2,000 with $2,000 suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $100 suspended jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered to contact a social service agency and get a substance abuse evaluation within 10 days; and was placed on probation for one year.

Kristopher A. Marquis, 29, Palmer, pleaded guilty to driving without a valid operator’s license. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $100 suspended jail surcharge with $100 suspended; and was placed on probation for one year.

Cobrey A. Lewis, 24, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment. He was fined $500 with $500 suspended and sentenced to 30 days in jail with 30 days suspended; ordered to pay $50 to support the Police Training Fund and a $100 suspended jail surcharge with $100 suspended; ordered to submit a DNA sample on request; ordered to complete Alcohol and Drug Information School; and was placed on probation for one year.
