Death notice — Jon Peterson

We announce the passing of Jon Montague Peterson, on Jan. 28. Jon was born on May 20, 1935, and grew up in Tulare, California. From a young age, Jon began lasting friendships to so many, which he continued to stay in touch with over his lifetime.

While living in Alaska circa the 1970s, Jon met Sara Elizabeth Budinger Roulston. The two celebrated 47 years of marriage before her passing in 2019. Their marriage was spent supporting each other’s career paths. They co-owned Sara ‘N Jon’s Bed and Breakfast in Homer, Alaska. Jon frequently recommended tourist spots to guests to explore the Kenai Peninsula. In Homer, he volunteered at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, promoting conservation and stewardship of Kachemak Bay.

When Jon and Sara decided to leave Alaska, they enjoyed life on the road in an RV traveling to Oregon, California, Arizona and Michigan to visit family and friends. Jon is survived by his three stepdaughters, five step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate Jon’s life will be held on May 10 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento. Rest in peace, Jon.
