The first Homer Farmers Market of the season kicked off on a sunny Saturday, May 24. The local market of farmers, crafters and food vendors has been in seasonal operation since 2000, opening in late May and ending in late September.
Some vendors — like “Mac,” who sells hand-beaded window hangings — have been doing the market for decades. Others — like Alaskan Made Make-Up — are new to the market this year, bringing new creations to the Homer vending scene.
Mac, who has been selling his art pieces at the market since 2006, said his mother originally started the business in the 1960s. Now, at 91, he continues on the legacy.
Keon Mostofi took over cooking and selling kettle corn at the market about three years ago. The iconic market food has been a steadfast staple in the Homer community for years.
Fika Coffee Roasters, which first began their business selling at a Farmers Market booth a few years ago and has quickly expanded, debuted their new coffee trailer at the first market of the year on Saturday. The trailer will be making appearances at other events around town this summer, including the upcoming Homer Harborfest on June 7, helping keep Homer caffeinated with the specialty roasted and poured coffee and homebrewed chai blend.
The market will be held every Saturday from 10 to 3 p.m. and every Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m. at 1155 Ocean Drive.
Kid’s Vending Wednesdays will be held June 18, July 16 and Aug. 13. On those three dates, youth under the age of 18 are welcome to participate as vendors from 1:30 to 5 p.m., free of charge, at a location chosen by HFM management. The 2025 Zucchini Festival will be held on Aug. 23. The last market of the year will be on Saturday, Sept. 27.
