Pet of the week: None available this week

The Homer Animal Shelter is closed to the public, including volunteers, until further notice. People interested in adopting a pet can visit and meet a new potential companion by calling the shelter and making an appointment. Visit the shelter’s Facebook page or petfinder.com to look at available pets.

The shelter will be staffed during regular business hours to accept strays, but socializing and non-emergency surrenders are on hold. Staff are not able to work at home “even though we’ve tried to teach the animals to feed themselves and clean the shelter daily,” according to a press release. The shelter also is looking for foster homes during this time. Leave a message with the shelter.

Call the Homer Police Department at 907-235-3150 for after-hours animal related emergencies and they will contact the Animal Control Officer on call. The shelter asks that any donations be made to the Homer Community Food Pantry.

The animal shelter is located across from the Public Works Department off the Sterling Highway. The shelter’s business hours are noon-7 p.m. Tuesday, noon-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Closed Mondays. For more information, call 235-3141.
