Snow Rondi variety show soothes cabin fever

A longtime Anchor Point winter tradition, the Cabin Fever Variety Show returned Thursday, Feb. 27.

Anchor Point residents might not be experiencing cabin fever this winter, what with the lack of snow and proper winter weather, but that didn’t deter them from packing the Chapman School gym on Thursday for the return of the Cabin Fever Variety Show.

Originating in 1951 as a creative effort to support multiple community entities in Anchor Point, including Chapman School and the Anchor Point Public Library, the variety show went on hiatus in 2018 before being revived by the Anchor Point Chamber of Commerce as part of the annual Snow Rondi festival last year.

Thursday’s show included 19 performances by Chapman School students and Anchor Point residents. Acts primarily included vocal and instrumental music performances, with a puppet comedy show, dance routine and a visual arts display added for — well, variety.

Chapman School principal Heidi Stokes served as emcee for the event, giving introductions to each act and noting in particular how hard all of the youth performers worked to prepare for the show.
