Amy Jane Velsko earned a masters of science in nursing with a specialization in family practice from Texas Woman’s University at commencement exercises on May 9, 2015. Velsko has spent the past seven years as a registered nurse at Baylor University Medical Center, the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and as part-time faculty at the Baylor University Louise Harrington School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. She has earned nursing certifications in pain management, medical-surgical and bariatric nursing. Velsko has a strong interest in forensic nursing and is working toward becoming certified as a sexual assault nurse examiner. Amy was selected as a member of the Golden Key Honor Society. She has been the recipient of the Dixon-Lieberman Scholarship from Baylor University Medical Center, along with the Gaston Episcopal Scholarship in which she was nominated by her graduate faculty. Velsko managed to spare her Fridays for one year to volunteer for Highland Park United Methodist Churchs’ night OWLS program, which provided respite to families of children with disabilities. A native of Homer, Alaska, Amy is the daughter of Peter and Elaine Velsko. She plans to return to Alaska this summer to advance her career in her home state where she can be close to her family.
