There will be a Kachemak Bay Birders Meeting and Presentation at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at the Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in the auditorium. Following the meeting there will be a presentation by Betty Siegel on “Birding in Cambodia and Honduras.” Siegel will present her 2017 birding adventures in the diverse and delightful countries of Cambodia and Honduras.

Siegel is a local birder who travels the world looking for birds and culture. Anyone who is interested in birding, birds and their habitats, citizen science or would just like to know more about our organization is welcome to attend. East End Road will be under construction through October. Drivers should be alert to culvert work. Expect lane restrictions, flagging operations and delays of up to 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The Exchange, a syringe exchange program, offers free syringe exchanges the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the South Peninsula Hospital Training Center, 203 West Pioneer Avenue, in the southwest corner of the building. Anchor Point Senior Citizens

The Anchor Point Senior Center on Milo Fritz Road is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-noon Friday.

The center serves Thursday night dinners starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

South Peninsula Hospital

The 34th annual Rotary Health Fair is 7:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at Homer High School. “It’s Your Life … Take a Day to be Well” is the theme of the fair, sponsored by Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club in cooperation with South Peninsula Hospital.

As part of the health fair, comprehensive blood analysis is available for only $40. Appointments are offered through Friday in the hospital conference room.

Overdose Response Training Offered: A free training on how to respond to an opioid overdose is offered at the health fair on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at the high school. Attendees will learn how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose and receive a free Narcan (naloxone) response kit. The training will be conducted by Dr. Sarah Spencer, Addiction Medicine Specialist.

Six-Week Health self management program offered. South Peninsula Hospital will offer “Living Well Alaska,” a chronic disease self-management class from mid-October to mid-November. The workshop runs every Thursday through Nov. 16, 2017, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The cost is only $10 for the entire six-week series.
