Homer’s annual Winter Carnival will return the first weekend of February. The parade, following the theme of “Sunshine and Snowflakes” this year, will take place on Pioneer Avenue on Saturday, Feb. 8 starting at noon.
An annual Homer tradition, the Winter Carnival parade is organized by the Homer Chamber of Commerce and provides an opportunity for community members to get together and “find something fun to do” in Alaska’s long winter season. Historically, parade participants have included local businesses, civic and nonprofit organizations, individuals of all ages and other local associations.
All are invited to participate in the parade — community members may register a float or enter as a walking, biking or driving entry. Participants should meet in the Homer High School parking lot at 11 a.m. on parade day.
The chamber is also seeking volunteers to help direct traffic; Homer High School students are encouraged to use up some of their volunteer hours for this event.
