BOEM holds meetings today

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, or BOEM, holds public scoping meetings at noon today in the Nanwalek Tribal Community Center and at 7 p.m. at Homer Middle School. BOEM is exploring holding an oil and gas lease sale, sale 244, in federal waters of Cook Inlet.

As part of that process, BOEM would prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) examining the potential environmental impacts of such a sale.  BOEM seeks information on issues, locations, animal species affected, etc. Scoping meetings are an early step in preparing an EIS. Comments can be made at the meeting or by Dec. 8 at  www.regulations.gov; search on “Sale 244.”
