The Kenai Peninsula Borough passed a resolution Aug. 19 authorizing the acquisition of additional land for the Kachemak Selo school construction project.
Resolution 2025-034 authorizes the purchase of a 0.3-acre area of land directly adjacent to the 1.02-acre lot that the borough purchased last year for the construction of a new school facility. The newly acquired land will form a perpetual easement to accommodate a septic system for the future school, as well as “any other uses as may be deemed necessary to accommodate school related activities.”
The borough appropriated $30,000 for the acquisition, as well as an additional $5,000 for title insurance, closing costs, and other due diligence fees. A representative from the borough mayor’s office said that the funding came from the project account in the Capital Project Fund and includes both local match funding and appropriated state grant funding.
According to the resolution the KPB Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the resolution at their Aug. 11 meeting.
