Haven House appoints new executive director

Lindsey Collins has served as interim director since April

South Peninsula Haven House welcomes Lindsey Collins as the organization’s new executive director, an Oct. 21 press release announced.

Collins has served as Haven House’s interim executive director since April and will “continue to lead SPHH in its mission to build a community free from domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.”

According to the release, Collins’ background in social work and justice includes nearly a decade of experience in victim services and child and family advocacy. She previously worked as the Child Advocacy Center director for both Haven House’s Kenai and Homer offices, and during her tenure in this role partnered with South Peninsula Hospital to open the Center of Excellence. She also served on the Homer Area Project Homeless Connect steering committee and as a board member for the Alaska Children’s Alliance.

Collins has also been a “key advocate” for victim services and worked with legislators in Juneau and Washington, D.C.

Britt Huffman, chair of the SPHH board of directors, said in the release that Haven House is “thrilled to officially welcome” Collins to her new position and that Collins’ passion, dedication and extensive experience in advocacy makes her “the perfect fit” to lead the organization into the future.

Collins also thanked those individuals who, in the 1970s and ‘80s, “saw a need and began hosting victims” in their homes, helping to bring about the inception of South Peninsula Women’s Services, the precursor to Haven House.

“I am propped up by all those who have made Haven House what it is now, and propelled by the victims and survivors who utilize our services each day. I am grateful to the Board of Directors for trusting me to lead this agency, and count it as both an honor and privilege to serve our community in this role,” she said in the release.
