Dear Homer,
The world is a pretty sad place lately. Let’s have a little fun this winter. I’m on a fun quest, and I’m inviting every one of Homer’s “unique” locals to join me for some community laughs this winter.
In 2014, our annual Homer Winter Carnival revived two fun community events. One is the Outhouse Races, the other is the Mr. Homer Pageant (open to both men and women, by the way). This notice is to invite anyone and everyone in our little hamlet to consider being a part of these events this February. If you have a fun “gang,” the outhouse race is a great way for any family, group, business or organization to have some laughs as a team. The entry (sponsorship) fee is $100 which goes to defraying costs involved, with any extra given to a local charity.
Here’s another fun option. If you know of an “amazing” (“goofy” also works here) local resident — be they a businessperson, teacher, friend or family member, please nominate them for Mr. Homer by submitting a (funny) paragraph or two explaining why that person is qualified to represent Homer as an “exemplary example of extraordinary-ness.” Entry fee is $25.
And finally a plea to area businesses and organizations. Please consider being a sponsor for one or both of these events. As always, Homer Events takes no profits from organizing these things, with any profits donated. We just want to make Homer a little more fun — and we’d sure appreciate your support.
To register for either event, or to sign up as a sponsor, simply go to Homer Events on Facebook or call Homer Events at 907-299-0319 to get answers and info. Thanks.
