Dr. Jay Marley’s opinion piece on the killings at an elementary school struck me as a thoughtful and provocative piece of work, regardless of your posture on the “gun rights” issue. As an owner of guns, I reflect personally as well as politically on the discussion.
Reading the comments following the piece on the website, I found little discussion or exchange of views, but snide condescension and sarcasm. One writer said that you could not possibly believe in the Second Amendment if there were any restrictions on the rights to bear arms. (I can imagine the Iranian dictator: “Atom bombs don’t kill people, people do”). I would be glad to hear a discussion with less poison and more exploration.
At this point I find Dr. Marley persuasive.
